Crescatorii adevarati stiu ca se pot intampla multe in urma montelor; as folosi o butada: SI DINTR-UN PUR SANGE ARAB SE MAI NASTE O MARTOAGA...

monasim Posted by monasim at 02:25 PM on July 10, 2009 Comments comments (5)

Mai are importanta?

Ghiciti raspunsul?

Concluzie?

- socializarea unui pui incepe chiar din primele luni de viata;

CALITATE

monasim Posted by monasim at 04:15 PM on June 16, 2009 Comments comments (0)

- cei care cumpara exemplare scumpe si le poarta in expozitii pentru a se fali cu ele si a face un palmares bazat doar pe importul facut(si de cele mai multe ori nu este cea mai fericita alegere);

dobandind palmares, din pacate lipsa de experienta si sfaturile proaste isi spune cuvantul: fac o monta - doua iar puii nu confirma nci macar la nivel minimal "valoarea" exemplarului achizitionat;

Felicitari atat crescatorului cat si proprietarului all carui profil l-am descris mai sus!

TRAINING

monasim Posted by monasim at 02:20 PM on June 13, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Thereare many ways in life to achieve the same desired results. Of them, there are hard ways and easy ways, right ways and wrong ways. The bestcourse is to combine the easy way with the right way and get the bestresults. This requires a lot of supervision and positive reinforcement.Let’s see how best to achieve what we want in order to housetrain ourChow Chow.

Where to begin: To get the kind of behavior you desire, you must:

1

Allocate an area for elimination outside the house

2

Show him the way to this spot

3

Praise him generously after he finishes

If you praise andreward him immediately after he finishes his job, it encourages him toeliminate in that area alone. The odor of his urine that he leavesbehind this time will linger till his next visit and he will soon markthat area as his sole place to do his business.

v

Time it right:At age six to eight weeks, your Chow Chow should go out to eliminateevery couple of hours, though as he grows older, he can go out fewertimes. In puppyhood, take him out at the following times of the day:

1

Upon waking in the morning

2

After naps

3

After each meal

4

After playing or a training session

5

After being left alone for a while

6

Just before bedtime

1.

“Hurry up” or “Potty”—the power of your command: Tohasten the dog’s potty time, teach him to eliminate when you give thecommand for it. So, say “hurry up" or "potty" in an encouraging tonejust when he gets the urge to “go”. He will soon learn that when yousay the command, he will begin to sniff, circle and then get down tobusiness. Once he’s done, praise him lavishly.

2.

Crate training: To give your pet a safe confinement during to him in a fun way, your pup will take to crate confinement quickly and without fuss. And there’s more you can do too, such as:

Ÿ

To makethis experience pleasurable, play with him there or spend time watchingTV there or reading as he gets busy with chewing a toy. If he is thereall by himself, he begins to associate the area with isolation and mayresist being there at all.

Ÿ

Begincrate training at dinnertime. Give him his feed, one piece at a time,by throwing bits of kibble in to the crate and making him search forit. This is one way of making a game of his training.

Ÿ

If youpick up his toys, replace them in the crate, so that when he returns hecan play with them. To surprise him, hide a biscuit in the crate—eventhat’s fun!

Ÿ

Don’tcrate him for longer than he can hold the urge to eliminate ordefecate. If you are gone for long periods each day, why not consider alarger confinement area such as an exercise pen or small room?

Ÿ

If yougive him a large area to eliminate in your absence, he can do it awayfrom his crate space, say about 15-30 square feet. If he finds aparticular spot eliminate, cover it with paper for easier cleaning.

v

Excuse him his mistakes:If you leave him to himself, he’s bound to make mistakes. He needs tobe supervised, so be with him at this time. Until he goes through fourweeks of not eliminating in the house, don’t consider him housetrained. If he’s older, this should be a longer period. Until then:

§

Keep a constant vigil over him

§

Set up baby gates to control his movements in the house

§

When unsupervised, confine him to his crate

v

Does he wet himself? If he squats and urinates when he greets you in puppyhood, he mayprobably suffer from submissive urination. Such dogs are hypersensitiveand should not be scolded for this behavior, since punishment onlyworsens the problem. However, as he grows older, he will no longer dothis if you are calm and quiet. Or you could ask him to sit down for atasty treat till someone greets him.

v

Once he has made a mess:

o

Remove all urine and fecal odor so that your Chow Chow does not return to the same spot in your house where he made a mess.

o

Use a good deodorizer for doggy odors.

o

If he’s urinated on a carpet, saturate it with a cleaning agent.

o

Shut off allthose rooms in your house where your Chow Chow has made frequentmistakes. Let him enter here only when accompanied by a family member.

v

Correcting his “mistakes”:It’s quite natural for a dog to make a mess during the housetrainingperiod. This is why you need t be ready to handle these problems. Here’s how:

§

Don’t punish him sternly when he makes a mistake as this only delays training.

§

Inorder to correct his behavior, make a startling sound, a sharp noise orsay “No” loudly. Do this when you catch him red-handed, but be sure notto be too loud or he will eliminate in front of you or perhaps evenoutdoors.

§

Be patient.

§

Don’tscold him after he has stopped soiling the area. Once he finishes, takehim into the yard where he can finish in the area he has marked andwhen he finishes, praise him.

§

Don’t rub his nose into his mess. This will not teach him not to repeat it and will only end up making him frightened of you.

v

Training your pup:Your pup’s socialization process begins when he is still in the litter. When he is seven to eight weeks old, he gains in independence and isadventurous about his environment. Now’s the best time to bring homeyour pup.

In the nextfortnight, he will begin to be easily frightened and will cling to youfor support and reassurance. Don’t make loud noises or surprises atthis time and have new experiences that don’t shock him or threaten hispeace of mind.

At 10 weeks, he iswell over this phase and will now enter the juvenile phase. Watch himnose around and be more exploratory—a phase that will go on till he’san adult. Now, introduce him to more new things He will be moreinquisitive and wider ranging in his explorations. But watch himclosely now as he may enter a second phase of fear in the fourth orfifth month.

While you socializeyour pup, take his health needs into consideration. Vaccinate himcompletely or he will catch the deadly disease Parvovirus. Don’t takehim out in public if his shots are still incomplete.

1

Obedience training for your pup: Evenat age six- seven weeks, when you begin to socialize your pup, you canmake the process fun with some gentle play. Use motivational methodsand reward-based behaviors by offering treats, toys and food, apartfrom praise so that he wants to obey you.

Try to set upsituations where he cannot go wrong. And NEVER use physical punishmentas this may harm him both mentally and physically and cause him todistrust and fear you.

As with all the veryyoung of all species, pups have very short attention spans. This meansthat you repeat exercises several times a day. All you need to do is tospend a few minutes a day and watch the difference in his attitude. Forbest results, start the process a few days after he comes home to you.

Trick training: Here are a few easy to teach tricks for all dogs:

Sit:

1

Take a piece of food or a toy and from in front of him, move it to over his head and simultaneously say "Sit".

2

He willraise his head and follow the direction of the food or toy, and withoutknowing it, lower his rear end to the process, lower his rear end tothe floor in a sitting position.

3

Help him into this position by tucking his bottom under with your free hand.

4

Now, praise him lavishly and give him the toy or treat as a reward.

Down:

1

Try to tease him by showing him a piece of food or toy.

2

Now, say "Down" and lower the toy to the floor.

3

If he needs help, lower his rear body with a slight pressure on his shoulders.

4

When he lies down, as per your commands, give him the toy, even if only for a second and reward him profusely.

5

Now, increase the time period a little at a time and repeat before you giving the pup the toy.

Stand:

1.

Whileyour pup is still in the Down position, say "Stand" and raise a treator toy high above his head. Help him get into position if he needs it.

2.

Let him remain in this position for a couple of seconds, then release, reward and praise him generously.

Wait:

1.

Get your pup into sitting position.

2.

Say "Wait" and move back from him/her, by a few steps. Praise your Chow Chow for staying.

3.

Now,reward and praise your puppy and release. Remember to reward him whilehe’s still waiting so that he makes the association between his actionand your reward.

If he gets up too soon, repeat the exercise and slowly increase the time he waits.

Strut (Heel):

1

Hold a tasty treat at his head level near your left-hand side.

2

Say "Strut" or "Heel" and walk forward briskly.

3

Allow him to taste the treat as you walk.

4

First, just take a few steps, then increase the distance. Next, release thepup and praise him. As she gets better at this, raise the level of thetreat higher, but don’t reward your Chow Chow for jumping for the treat.

By training your pup, you will develop a close bond of love and loyalty with him, besides also being a whole lot of fun. As you know, an untrained dogcan mean headache and heartache. Conversely, a well-trained dog is a friend for life and a lovinng companion for you and your family.

TEMPER AND BEHAVIOUR

monasim Posted by monasim at 02:07 PM on June 13, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Temperament and behavior

The Chow Chow is very intelligent but not always easy to train. They don't have the strong desire to please their masters as do breeds like the Golden Retriever. They seem to please themselves first and don't respond to the average methods of training  and motivation. They do not tolerate physical punishment and can't beforced into anything. Hitting or beating a Chow will either result inviciousness or a broken spirit. Like a cat, a Chow is only willing to do what suits his mood at the time. He's an independent thinker and will make his own decisions if you don't stay a step ahead of him! The Chow is a powerful, regal, beautiful animal and he knows it. He expects to be treated with dignity and respect respect that he will return if  you show you're worthy of it.

From this description, I think you can see that the Chow Chow is not abreed for everyone. Its temperament is often misunderstood and many people mistakenly believe that Chows are vicious dogs. This breed is naturally suspicious of strangers and very territorial. They take their homes and family very seriously as well as their responsibility to protect what they love. On his own property and especially without his owner present, the Chow can appear to be quite fierce. He will seldom let a stranger pass unchallenged. People used to the warm welcome  for other breeds are unprepared for the seriousness of the Chow; guests must be greeted by the owners before the dog accepts them.

The Chow's appearance also contributes to the myths about his temperament. The scowling, sometimes wrinkled face, small deep set eyes, and lionlike ruff are intimidating. Some people complain that they can't "read" a Chow's expression as easily as other breeds'. The Chow'snatural aloofness, dignity and indifference to people outside his family is often misinterpreted by people who expect most dogs to be outwardly friendly and affectionate. The Chow saves his affections for those he loves dearly and finds little reason to seek attention from anyone else. He minds his own business and simply doesn't care what other people think of him!

The strong-willed Chow needs an equally strong-willed owner. They have definite minds of their own and can easily become your master if you allow it. Chow puppies are naturally well-behaved, more so than most breeds. They're seldom destructive or disobedient. Because of their good behavior, many people fail to train them properly. When an untrained Chow reaches adolescence, that dreadful teenage stage alldogs go through, he may refuse to accept your authority. We've found that most people who've had behavior problems with their Chows failed to train them and earn their respect.

Although the Chow adjusts well to being alone during your workinghours, he prefers to be with you when you're home, not kept as anoutside dog. He loves to spend time outside but tied up or confinedaway from people, he'll become very anti-social. Because of theirhunting instincts, Chows without training don't always get along withcats or tiny dogs. They aren't "pack" dogs either and seldom get alongwith large dogs of the same sex.

SOCIALIZING YOUR CHOW

monasim Posted by monasim at 02:00 PM on June 13, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Socializing Your Chow Chow

Socialization is the process of teaching a dog how to cope with andbehave well in a human world. Socialization is important for any petbut it's especially critical for Chows! They're natural watchdogs. They're suspicious of strangers. This a natural, instinctive quality ofthe breed. It doesn't have to be taught. Without socialization, though,a Chow may become so suspicious that he won't let anyone touch him. Hemight even become aggressive. Most of the stories you hear about"vicious" Chows were inspired by unsocialized dogs.

Socialization should start as soon as the puppy is born. A responsiblebreeder lays a foundation for good behavior by handling the puppiesevery day. As they grow, the breeder allows them to go outside, to playand explore this big new world. The pups are introduced to a dog crate,house-breaking and the veterinarian. The breeder provides as many newexperiences as possible to prepare them for the transition to their newhomes. The breeder has merely started the socialization process. Nowit's up to you to go on from there.

To a puppy, everything in the world is brandnew. He's never seen any of this before! Try to remember hisperspective as you teach him what's expected of him. Dogs learn frompositive and negative experiences. They learn fastest from positiveexperiences. You'll get best results if you make it easy and rewardingfor the puppy to do what you want. It's important to have patience anda good sense of humor!

Throughout his life, your Chow will need grooming and medical exams. The first thing every Chow puppy must learn is to allow himself to behandled and touched all over his body. Several times a day, pick upyour puppy and put him on his back in your lap or on the floor. Begentle but firm. He'll probably struggle to get away so rub his tummyand talk to him until he relaxes. Run your hands all over him - downhis legs, fiddle with his toes, feel his ears, lift his lips to look athis teeth, scratch his back. He might nip your fingers in play andwriggle all around while he's getting his "massage". It's importantthat you make these sessions enjoyable but don't let it turn into awrestling match or tug o'war game. Have everyone in your householdhandle the puppy like this every day. Gradually increase the length oftime the puppy must lie quietly until he'll lie there to be massaged aslong as you want.

Introduce a brush and the nailclipper during some of these sessions andmake the brushing feel good. As your Chow grows up and it's no longerpractical to hold him in your lap, encourage him to lie on his side forhis massages. Grooming and nailcutting are much easier on both of youwhen the Chow lies quietly on his side. Your Chow will look forward togrooming if you've shown him since puppyhood how pleasurable it can be.

Chows can be reluctant to meet new people and must be taught totolerate strangers. Many Chow puppies enjoy the people they meet andwant attention. Others don't. Some puppies learn to like it but a fewnever do. It really doesn't matter how your puppy feels about it,though. The most important thing is that he learn to tolerate beinghandled by strangers because you want him to. Without this training, visits to the vet, the groomer or boarding kennel will always bedifficult or even impossible.

When a visitor wants to pet your puppy, pick him up and put him in theperson's arms. Shy or frightening puppies often do better when pickedup than if approached on the ground. Both of you should talk to him ina happy, cheerful voice. Have your visitor offer him some of hisfavorite treats. If the pup's frightened or upset, ignore it. Don'tbaby him or use a comforting tone - "There, there, puppy, don't bescared, everything's okay" - because it backfires! The puppy usuallyresponds by becoming more frightened and acts even worse. Make yourpuppy feel secure by being confident and enthusiastic. Be gentle butfirm.

Many kennel clubs, veterinary clinics and animal shelters offer "puppykindergarten" classes. Created especially to help with socialization, these inexpensive classes are great opportunities for you and yourpuppy. They're fun, too! Your puppy especially needs socialization inthe world outside your home. As soon as he can be taught to walk onleash and has had his puppy shots, take him everywhere with you. Let him investigate everything. If he's afraid or confused, find a spot forthe two of you to sit and watch things go by. Bring along some of hisfavorite treats and toys. Let him check things out at his own pace andencourage him with a happy, confident voice. For some puppies, it mightonly take a few minutes for them to get comfortable in a newenvironment. For others, you might need to make several of these "watchand relax" stops throughout the course of a walk.

When you take your Chow to the vet, be positive but firm. In order towork efficiently, the vet needs your dog's cooperation. No vet likes towork on a growling dog that's not under his owner's control and somewill refuse to serve them altogether. Encourage your puppy to standquietly on the table. Keep gentle control over his head.

When your puppy is old enough, 4-6 months of age, start him inobedience class! Even the most well-behaved Chow puppy needs to learnto obey commands. Classes are inexpensive, fun, excellent opportunitiesfor socialization and available in almost every city. Your veterinarianor the AKC can refer you to local training clubs that offer groupclasses at convenient times and reasonable rates.

Socialization with other dogs.....Chows are not a "pack" breed. Most ofthem are fairly solitary and don't enjoy the company of other dogsbesides those in their own household. Chows can learn to be ladies andgentleman when on lead around other dogs, though, and puppykindergarten and obedience classes are good socialization and trainingopportunities.

Some Chows are "born socialized" but most of them require some form ofsocialization throughout their whole lives. Like obedience training,it's an ongoing process that's never quite finished. Once your Chow'sgrown up, continue taking him with you whenever possible. If left athome too long out of sight of the real world, your Chow may quicklyforget how he's supposed to act. Give him plenty of socializationrefresher courses. Let him meet new people and make new friends. There'll be plenty of people wanting to admire your beautiful dog andyou'll make plenty of new friends, too!
